Tomorrows a Brand New Day

Marriage is a strange thing, even when you have been with someone for years somethings still are difficult to talk about or should I say how to put into words or when to say them, I have had this problem for a while now, I know Daves likes and dislikes and one of his likes happen to be smoking, I smoke as well and have noticed over the last few months how this is starting to effect us. We smoke so much out here, cigs are so cheap compared to the UK, we have tried giving up before but sadly started again, we could of course run off hundreds of silly excuses why we started again, but we all know that’s what they are excuses, the fact is we were not strong willed enough.

Anyway today I blurted out to Dave that I was getting worried about his health and desperately wanted us both to quit, with both our fathers passing away partly due to cigs, plus the fact it was bloody obvious we were both starting to suffer ill effects from cigs, I couldn’t just carry on watching us get worse…” oh god!! gone and done it now” he said NO straight away and didn’t want to talk about it anymore, so I carried on and on and on and on… I then got the look over the glasses which means shut up now!! so I did 😦

But about half an hour of total silence he said  ”Tomorrow we quit”  just like that, ” no stuffing our faces with cake or sweets this time as I dont want to gain tones of weight like before”.. ok I said ya on 🙂

Plan of action, tomorrows the day, I decided to make a quitting calendar so we can cross off each day as we go along, wanna see lol,

hahaha ok so its not a masterpiece but you get the general idea, I stuck it on the kitchen cupboard so we can see it every Morning.

I know deep down Daves doing this partly cause he loves money and hates wasting it on cigs and partly cause he knows how much I am worried, I dont really care why hes giving up as long as he does, and with us both giving up together we can help each other.

Enjoy Dave cause thats your LAST packet, just think photos of Dave WITHOUT  a cig in his mouth 🙂 I know its not going to be easy, and I dare say we may have a few cross words to say to one another, oh! wouldn’t be me if I didn’t add a cartoon,

So blogging buddies wish us luck, I’m having a washing day tomorrow, get rid of ash trays, lighters and any reminders, tomorrows a brand New Day……

  1. Two more down. Still a few friends who smoke though, so that’s ok.

  2. montieandme Says:

Thanks for the support Mad Dog lol….

  3. Stay strong, and good luck. I know it’s a tough go (experience) but well worth it in the end.

  4. There’s always the shisha!

How’s the shed coming along Dave?

    N X

PS Keep it up – you know it makes sense

  5. A hookah (Hindi: हुक़्क़ा, Urdu: حقّہ hukkah) or shisha (Arabic: شيشة‎) is a single or multi-stemmed (often glass-based) water pipe for smoking. The concept of filtered smoke through a pipe originated in India and later developed into the modern hookah in Iran,[1][2][3][4][5] hookah has gained immense popularity, especially in the Middle East and is gaining popularity in the USA, UK, Canada, and elsewhere.[6] Today, some of the highest quality and most extravagant hookah pipes come from Egypt, Iran and Turkey. The hookah operates by water filtration and indirect heat. It is used for smoking herbal fruits and tobacco, and is often considered to be healthier than smoking cigarettes.

  6. Liverpool John and Marg gave up smoking. They were chain smokers. John did ok but Marg had a hacking cough for a year and is now addicted to nicotine chewing gum. And now, of course, they’re like, can we sit upwind of you, we don’t smoke.

But I’m very supportive of them. I never offer them a cigarette.

Nargiles are now banned in Turkey, unless they’re outside.

For me its all about health, Dave chain smoked, I checked his heart rate and it was abit too fast for my liking, I have nursed people with Emphysema and I don’t want to see Dave or I like that..

Seen far too many people die too young… unnecessarily..

  7. Congratulations to both you and Dave for making this decision – keep up the good work!

  8. Linda:

A few posts ago I made a comment about smoking and you admitted that you DID TOO. I kept my MOUTH SHUT but I was very disappointed that you two would continue to do that filthly, dirty, disgusting habit which does nothing to extend your life. BUT I kept my mouth SHUT. But now that you have mad this admission I must say that this is a BIG step in the right direction. Everytime your brain gets the signal to have a “ciggy”, have a Nooner instead . . .

But of course we sent them Bob…would I lie to you 😉

2nd day today we are doing ok, a few freaky dreams, obvious cravings, well if you hate smoke that much Bob guess we have to stay off them, now if you had just said that weeks ago!!!

  10. Linda,
How are you two holding up…with the no smoking thingy…bet you give up in a week’s time…lol…hope not and wish you every success in this undertaking…
What you doing parading Dave half naked on your blog…?

  11. montieandme Says:

Thank you Baron, we wont give up, our sense of smell has improved already,

    You smoke don’t you Baron!!

Dave’s ALWAYS half naked, he never wears clothes in the apartment this time of year lol….

    • Linda, don’t give up it can be done… I have the occasional fag now and again and again…but more on a casual basis…not a habit as smoking is banned almost everywhere in public places, so it’s a hassle to light up…I don’t smoke at home…. so it’s very casual smoking…plus at $10/pack it could become an expensive habit.
I understand smoking is a national sport in Turkey and the middle east in general…so you live in a different environment more conducive to smoking.
He needs to be careful…no clothes…the neighbors will talk…lol
Great post…love your hand made calendar…did you cook supper for poor Dave or is he having his special again

      • montieandme Says:

Your right there about smoking being a national sport Baron, you get frowned on if you DON’T smoke here!!

Oh I always cook for David, hes spoilt, we are actually walking alot more now as well.

We are pretty determined to make this work..no pain no gain…

  12. Curious. I really thought I’d left a note here. Obviously wifey’s brain troubles are spreading to me now. How’s it going? I can not smoke, but I couldn’t give it up if I also didn’t drink. Wowser. I seem to remember you saying you didn’t drink? If you gave up gambling too, you could become a Methodist minister. Cool.

  13. montieandme Says:

Thats right SJAT I don’t drink either, alcohol is so over rated, I never gamble either thats a big NO…

Tried it all (except gambling) and nah! either gives you a hangover, makes you throw up or talk a load of shit that know body wants to hear, and cigs well not ready for a heart attack yet and sick of burning money away…

If that qualifies me as a minister then pass the dog collar lol

  14. Linda:

    How’s progress ? it’s been a few days now . . .

    • montieandme Says:

Still smoke free Bob, I’m really proud of Dave because I know how much I bullied him into this, hes very much on the programme, we have started to walk into town and have got ourselves onto a healthy diet, our cravings come in waves, we knew the withdrawals would be abit rough, our taste and smell has started to improve already.

I don’t usually put my foot down, but I’m darn glad I did in this case, I think our lives have just got better 😉

  15. Linda:

that’s great. After I get my plane tickets and knock on your door, there will be a Transalp to ride around. I know you won’t need it as you are both walking. OR . . . perhaps Montie needs a little exercise

  17. How’s it going? Distinct lack of blog for a few days.

    • montieandme Says:

      Hi SJAT

Lack of concentration I’m afraid, tried reading your New Book Review, shall try again, cold Turkey is no fun, been over a week now of no smoking, things are getting better, takes time.. although the nicotine has gone from our systems the cravings come and go, plus of course the mental head games are always a blast!!
Really pleased that we are managing and still determined to stay smoke free…

Think we are off on a bike trip next weekend, fresh air and the open road, so blogs will return lol..thanks for asking 🙂

  18. Linda:

SJAT is not the only one who misses You (& Dave)

  19. montieandme Says:

Aww thanks Bob..shall be blogging away soon…

  20. Well done on the giving up smoking – keep it up! You can do it!!
I’m sorry, but i’m finding it really really hard to believe that DAVE actually WALKED into town!!!!!! Shall have to see it with my own eyes!

    • montieandme Says:

struggling with the none smoking 😦 but yep we are both walking everywhere now really, nice to have you back mate 🙂

  21. Bev:

finally, we get to hear from you. I just checked . . . NO pictures of your adventure posted yet ? glad you arrived home save and sound.

How far is it into town ? was just wondering.

  22. Linda:

An hour is about a mile or so ? I can picture it now, hand in hand walking down the road together and bring a back pack to carry stuff home. Think of all the petrol you are saving. But shoes wear out faster. Good thing you have lots of them in the closet. I know about your shoe addiction

  23. Linda:

Yikes, I see Dave is back on-line but nothing here yet. Didn’t he buy you a new laptop yet ?
